Microsoft Access Repair Issues and Tips to Fix the Database

Are you facing trouble with your Access database? The problems arise when there is an error in the binary file format of the particular database. Thus, the database can be rendered useless, or there is an inconsistent behavior like random errors. Access database problems are common, but the application fixes minor issues in the database during the regular reading and writing table data usage. In most cases, the database becomes corrupt, but often you might never know anything about it. It is risky as the corruption spreads and gets worse with time.

Common Causes Database Problem

  • The hardware issues that can affect the database integrity relate to networking and the hard-drives are the most common. The network cards lose packets and hard-drives that have bad sectors are the most common causes of database problems. It is best to test the hard-drives regularly for fault-tolerance.
  • Software troubles arising from third-party plug-ins for Access installed in your machine can use them in your databases and lead to problems if they are not appropriately designed. The plug-ins are programs in their rights, and as they run in the same application of memory space as Access, if the plug-in crashes, so does Access.
  • New versions of applications keep coming, and sometimes there could be a bug in their software. When you create a new database in Microsoft Access, you should disable the Name AutoCorrect feature which is known for the bugs.
  • Viruses attack is another common cause of problems in the database. The virus can easily corrupt your files or databases by deleting some parts or overwriting the file. So, ensure that your system is safe from the virus or the spyware.
  • Synchronization of data is a great way to sync the massive data between two or more devices. However, if it is not done well, it makes the data inaccessible.

Tips to Use Database

  • If there are not essential sheets, the best and the easiest way to prevent the data from corruption is to delete the files that are not required. Keeping the unrequired files in the same database will make it a large one and sometimes large size is not an option.
  • Taking the regular backup of the files is an excellent way to keep the data safe. When you take regular backups of the files, there is a chance to recover the database if it gets inaccessible.
  • Once you are finished working with the database, you should exit from it properly. If it is not done well, it may corrupt the database. So, you should always follow this process.
  • Frequently compacting the database using the inbuilt utility also improves the speed. It not just compacts the files but also repair and fix the corrupt files. It also helps to significantly boost the performance of the database.

Doing the Repairs

  • Select the compact and repair database tool in the Access. Open the application, select the database tools tab and then click the ‘Compact and Repair Database’ option on the tab. It will open the ‘Database to Compact From Window’ will open from which you can choose the database file to repair. Press the close button and enter the new file title.
  • There is a tool within Microsoft Access called Microsoft Jet Compact Utility that can recover the corrupted database. Download the utility and extract the exe file. It is very similar to the inbuilt utility as it compacts the database.

You can follow these tips and use Microsoft Access Repair utilities and ensure that the database gives the desired performance.
